Remarkably this is the first official recording of Jimmy Somerville live as a solo performer but comes off the back of an impressive twelve months for the former Bronski Beat and Communards singer. 2015’s Homage was a fabulous slice of summery pop, re-awakening awareness of his talents.
This album captures some of his acoustic performance at the famous Stella Polaris festival in Denmark last summer, with tracks from across his career. There’s a raw and emotional version of the still wonderful Smalltown Boy (Somerville’s best song) as well as an intriguing re versioning of Why? from the same era.

Impressively the newer material sits well alongside the classics, with Back To Me and Some Wonder sounding as good as the evergreen Don’t Leave Me This Way despite Somerville’s slightly apologetic tone when he introduces the fresher material. This is a reminder of the Scots wonderful vocal talent and not just an album for die hard fans.
